Fish Vending Women Welfare Programme
This forum is functioning with the vision of integrated and sustainable development of the fish vending women and their families. It is functioning in 41 villages of all the six coastal regions of the operational area effectively. Activities of the forum are following:
Monthly meeting of the coordinators is conducted to evaluate the programmes of previous month and plan for the future activities. Regional level executive committee is gathered every month to take necessary decisions regarding loan distribution, repayment, other activities and disciplinary actions. Monthly general body meeting in Unit level is carried out in all the 41 fishing villages wherever the forum is present. In these sessions awareness classes are given effectively. Board meetings are being held at regional and central levels once in a year to change or adopt policy decisions according to the region. Celebrations and get together in unit, regional and central levels especially on Fish Workers Day, Onam, Christmas and Womens Day. Central level general body meeting has been conducted and reformulated the existing Bylaw and approve it.
Awareness classes on different subjects in regional level and unit level have been conducted according to the need and interest of members. IGP training on bath soap, washing soap and soap powder were given in all regions in unit level. Market visit is being done to understand the situations in the markets and the difficulties and hazards faced by the fish vending women. Home visit is done regularly by the regional forum coordinators, especially to those houses were the members of the forum face family issues of various kinds. Net working: A good rapport was developed with Matsyafed , SAAF, Department of Fisheries. Monthly auditing is done in regional level to regularize the lone, repayments etc. Awards given for 3 exemplary fish vending women in the forum was a motivation for other women to improve their life.
