Sustainable Livelihood through SHGs
TSSS has 1225 SHGs in its target area. They are functioning as the back born of women empowerment in the Diocese. The activities carried out through SHGs envisaged to achieve socio- cultural and economic development of women through training on life skills, leadership skills, work skills, management skills, awareness programmes, social activities, availing of loans for micro enterprises, etc. To improve the performance of SHGs a quality assessment survey has been conducted and follow up activities have planned and village and regional level SHG federation meetings are conducted every month to evaluate and implement the plan. Life skill training programmes and self employment trainings are given to various SHGs based on their needs, interest and scope for marketability. Ten days extended EDP and IGP training program are conducted for different regions in association with NABARD. During Onam and Christmas season TSSS organized Marketing fairs in different regions to provide opportunity for the SHGs to sell out their products and to create a confidence in them that their products are valued and demanded by the people. Bank loans were availed to SHGs to initiate Income Generation programmes and micro enterprises based on their performance. A good number of SHGs have started to involve in various social and political issues.
