Functional Vocational Training Programmes
Vocational Training programme: Vocational Training programmes are organized in various villages through different institutions, some of them are permanent and some others start for a short duration. These vocational training programmes find a better life for many of the youths from very poor families.
Activities of vocational training institutes of TSSS are given below.
A. St. Xaviers Computer Centre: This centre has been started in 1993. In 2000-01 is affiliated to All India Society for Electronics and Computer Technology (AISECT) and in 21/08/2008 it is affiliated to Centre for Development of Imaging Technology ( C-DIT), undertaken by Govt of Kerala. All software and hardware courses are thought in the centre. The centre situates near St. Josephs Cathedral, Palayam, Trivandrum.
B. ST Xaviers ITC Valiyathura: Since 1995 the institute prepares students as per the norms and syllabus prescribed by the National Council for Vocational Training and presents them for exams in two year courses of Draftsman Civil, Electronics and for the one year course in plumbing. Certificates are issued by the NCVT after conducting All India level examinations (All India Trade Test).
C. St Xaviers Institute of Technology: The institute plays grate role in fulfilling the objective of alternate employment for the backward communities. The courses offered are: Fire engineering and safety; X- Ray welding; Wireman; Motor Driving (Link to
D. St.Xaviers Community College: The community college is an alternative system of education aimed at helping school droop-outs youth. Mission of the centre is giving the best to the least and including the excluded. Focus of the centre is to make the dropouts and illiterates employable. Community Collage offers courses like Diploma in Welding, Plumbing and Electrician, Diploma in Computer Application, Secretarial Practice and Front office Management, Diploma in Nursing Assistant. Entrepreneurial Development Programme (EDP) was given to the students trained in technical education.
Financial Assistance for Higher Studies: Interest free education loans (Rs15,000 each) are given to poor students having professional qualification as Engineering, BEd, TTC, Nursing and B.Tech. Poor students, who are having no access to pay the fees, are given stipend for technical studies. It provides an opportunity for technical education and thus helps students to find their own ways from daily sustenance.
