Fishermen and other Labours welfare programme

Centre for Fisheries Studies: The Centre for Fisheries Studies (CFS) at Spencer jn. Palayam, Thiruvananthpuram, an institute for fisher folk and Thiruvananthapuram Mathsyathozhilali Forum (TMF) a Community Based Organization of fisher folk, both are realized by TSSS mainly to address the problems of Fisher folk and to mobilize them for their own wellbeing. CFS functions as documentation, training, research and information centre involving in necessary and innovative steps to mobilize the fishermen and make linkage between fisheries departments of State Government. CFS takes initiatives on the concerns and issues of the fisher folk. CFS conducts awareness programs for fishermen on “Fishermen welfare schemes of Government” and training to their students on spoken and Communicative English, personality development etc. Centre for Fisheries Studies is also developed as resource centre for fisheries related studies. Relevant news of fisheries sector are filed and documented for future reference.

Tiruvananthapuram Matsythozhilali Forum (TMF): TMF is community based organization of the fishermen. They are been federated at village, regional and central level. Social welfare activities of them are carried out through this forum. The office of the forum is functioning in CFS.

KLM (Kerala Labour Movement): Activities concerning labours other than fishermen are done through KLM (Kerala Labour Movement), an organization formed and controlled by KCBC labour commission to organize the unorganized labours in the employment sector in Trivandrum Latin Archdiocese. Seminars and classes are conducted to disseminate the awareness on welfare schemes of unorganized labours.

Farmers club: In order to encourage good farming practices farmers clubs are formed. Possibilities in the agricultural field are discussed as well as the support programs are provided for encouraging agricultural activities, as financial assistance, free distribution of seeds, manure etc. Trainings are provided on construction of vermin compost pit, kitchen garden and organic vegetable cultivation and assistance for the same was provided to eligible farmers.

Aiswarrya: Aiswarrya is an initiative of TSSS to organize the house maids and home nursing maids. It could provide employment for women. Try monthly gatherings are conducted to evaluate the programme. Awareness classes and training programmes are conducted on concerned topics on house maid and home nursing.
