Family Adoption Programmes
Programme under this head is carried through adoption of families. Save A Family Plan (SAFP) is the name of this programme, which aims to meet the basic needs of the poorest of the poor families and to encourage them to move towards self- reliance or economic independency and promotion of sustainable livelihood initiatives and enhance positive self image, thus to bring them into the mainstream development activities of the society.. At present 300 families are benefiting from this programme. Each family is assisted with Rs.750/ month. Different life skills and work skills trainings and financial assistance are given to the beneficiaries to initiate some income generation programme, which are possible according to their interest.
Some of the families have started candle making, soap making, sari painting, and tailoring units. Some others are encouraged to take up different livestock units such as cow rearing, goat rearing, hen rearing etc. The EDP trainings are given to the new beneficiaries to motivate them to start an income generation programme. For better socio-economic, cultural and religious life awareness classes on communicable diseases, HIV/ AIDS, Alcohol and drugs, Family budgeting, Responsible parenthood, Personality development etc. are conducted for them. The persons with family problems are given special guidance and support. The members who are addicted to alcohol are encouraged to take up treatment. Bank loans are availed to support IGP. Onam the festival of Kerala, is celebrated with the families in the regional levels and Christmas is celebrated at the central level along with their children display their cultural talents. This helps to strengthen the family bonds among the beneficiaries and TSSS staffs and local sponsors.
We take interest to find local sponsors to support more poor families and many people agreed to assist.
